Our Goal:
To connect and communicate with and between the
school district, city and community.
Planning Council Role/Expectations:
- Serves as communications tool to disseminate and share K-12 information with (and from) the city government and the community.
- Serves as a sounding board for ideas and concerns.
- Provides a safe place to discuss any topic that affects students.
- Serves as endorser of School Improvement Team (SIT) goals.
- Serves as overseer of curriculum, assessment, and staff development initiatives.
- Commitment to monthly attendance is critical.
Representation:
- Chairperson - 2 year term (can be extended to four years)
- Two teachers from each school - 3 year term (rotating)
- One teacher to represent the "specials" (i.e. art, phy. ed, tech. ed., music, guidance, special ed.) - 2 year term (rotating)
- One support staff representative - 2 year term (rotating)
- One school board representative - 2 year term dependent upon availability (one year board experience preferred)
- One community liaison - 2 year term (rotating)
- Three parent representatives - 3 year term dependent upon availability, 2 year term minimum
- One community representative - 3 year term dependent upon availability, 2 year term minimum (business, university, past-parent, etc.)
- City Administrator
- School Administrators - ongoing
Selection: Chair and selection committee will review candidates.
Meetings: The planning council meets on the second Wednesday of the month in October, December, February, and May from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Decision Making: Decisions made by the planning council are consensus based.
Election of Chair: A chair is elected by consensus unless two or more eligible (non-administrative) members are interested and then a vote is taken.
Information Sharing: Planning council members are encouraged to ask staff for input regarding agenda items and to take time to review the meeting (share information) with staff members, parent groups such as PTO, etc.
