A Message from the High School Principal

Welcome to Altoona High School, home of the Altoona Railroaders!  Another exciting and challenging school year is here.

My name is Jason LeMay and as the new high school principal I am looking forward to working together with our students and staff to build upon these accomplishments.  This is my sixth year as a principal (first year in Altoona), and I’m already impressed with the students, staff, parents, and community members I’ve gotten to know so far and am excited to meet more.

Here in Altoona, our high school serves approximately 430 students in grades 9-12. We are proud to be able to offer something for every student who walks through our doors.  Our expanding curricular offerings aim to provide students with the learning experiences they will need to be prepared for whatever direction they choose to pursue after high school.  Altoona High School also has an outstanding academic profile and this year I'm happy to report that Altoona was again ranked one of the top high schools in Wisconsin by U.S. News and World Report.

This year we will also continue to develop our RAIL Time, a block of time built into our daily schedule for a variety of learning experiences, ranging from general homework help, reteaching, one-on-one tutoring, to enrichment activities.  RAIL Time allows our students the opportunity to enhance their own learning by identifying their areas of need and/or interest and then scheduling themselves accordingly.

All this would not be possible without the high school staff.  The high school staff is comprised of highly-qualified, experienced, and caring people who are committed to success for all students. This commitment is demonstrated daily as we strive to help our students grow, not only academically, but as respectful, contributing members of society as well.

My priorities for 2016-2017:

  • Build relationships and partnerships throughout the Altoona Community and Chippewa Valley.
  • Learn, assess, and act on how to best position our staff and students for success.
  • Continue and improve communication between the high school and all the stakeholders.

Finally, I offer a warm welcome to our incoming freshman class, our new students, and our new families. We look forward to building relationships with all of you as we help prepare our students for success as they enter the world of college, career, and community after AHS!
