Enrollment Projections and Findings Report - March 2013

This report offers a summary of the Enrollment Projection Analysis completed for the School District of Altoona by the Applied Population Laboratory (APL), University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Projections (2013 - 2022) are provided for the district as a whole, and individually for each grade and grade grouping. The projection process uses a combination of historical enrollment data, birth trends and projections, housing starts data, and population trends to create reasonable assumptions about future growth scenarios and the likely impact on the school district.

Take a Survey to Help Improve High Speed Internet Connectivity

Technology is needed now more than ever in our schools and classrooms.   Many schools are not able to take advantage of opportunities affordably due to inadequate bandwidth and not all students have the same equitable opportunities for learning because they may lack access to the Internet at home.

To address these issues, schools districts in Wisconsin are participating in efforts to determine the current status of Internet broadband access and where improvements are needed.  The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC-W) are partnering to promote a residential and business broadband demand survey through May, 2013.

Project Based Learning (PBL) School Resources
What is Project Based Learning? Project-based learning is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they're studying. It allows students to work more autonomously to construct their own learning, and culminates in realistic, student-generated products.
Skylert/School Messenger
The Altoona School District is pleased to announce our use of the Skylert/School Messenger notification service. School Messenger is a communications system that allows us to quickly send mass notifications to parents, students and employees. School Messenger can provide you with information by Phone Call, Email and/or Text Message. Starting on February 4, 2013, we will use the system to let families know about emergency situations, weather-related delays/cancellations, changes to scheduled events, student absences, low lunch account balances, and to announce upcoming events. Follow the link to find out how it all works!

Did you know?
Alert! Be aware! The Altoona Athletic Boosters is the only organization that produces a "sports calendar" or poster to promote our athletic events. If your business has been contacted to buy advertising by any company or organization other than the Altoona Athletic Boosters, you may have been "scammed." These companies operate under names like Athletic Boosters Inc. or Sport Media. In August, Sports Media fraudulently "sold an ad" in the amount of $139 to a local business - supposedly for an 2010/11 Winter Sports Poster for Altoona High School.
