Our Story
On February 20, 2017, the School Board adopted a Resolution allowing the District to proceed with a campaign to raise donations of not less than $1,000,000 to support the Athletic Complex Redevelopment Project. Under the guidelines of the Resolution, the Board required financial commitments of at least $1,000,000 from outside sources before they would proceed with a plan that will not increase property taxes.
These improvements are now a reality! Project bids came in under budget and construction started in early April. In August 2019 we celebrated our campus as a destination our students, families, and community will be proud of!"

Athletic Complex
Project Overview
The School District of Altoona Sports Complex Capital Campaign is ongoing as we continue to raise funds to offsets building costs for our sports complex at Altoona High School. The $3 million project includes:
- New Synthetic Turf Dual Football/Soccer Field
- 8 Lane Track with 9 Sprint Lanes
- High Jump, Pole Vault, Long/Triple Jump, Shot Put and Discus Facilities
- 1,673 Capacity Bleachers
- Entrance Plaza and Ticket Area
- Concessions, Restrooms, and Storage Space
Details
The current football field was reconstructed with synthetic turf and expanded to also include a regulation size soccer field. The stadium includes an elevated “home” grandstand with seating for 1173 spectators, as well as additional seating on the other side of the field to provide space for “away” fans, or additional seating of 500.
This plan also included fixes and updates to the press box, a new scoreboard, with a video option should an upgrade be desired. In addition to the field area, there is a new plaza that includes the entrance and a new multi-use concession/ restroom/storage building.
The complex also features a new track that will accommodate meets, with 8 lanes, 9 sprint lanes. The shot put and discus area was moved and providing additional space for events.
All of these upgrades provide the opportunity to host various home events and WIAA competitions.

Press Release - Prevea Health Partnership Announced
A capital campaign has raised nearly a million dollars through private donations. To fund the remaining balance the school district has an option to seek additional financing through borrowing and through additional fundraising efforts. The repayment of the borrowing would involve making room in the current operational budget without an increase to the overall bottom line. Therefore, it would not result in an added increase to the taxpayer.
