4K Enrollment Information
If your child is 4 years old by September 1st, 2026, they are eligible to attend 4-year-old kindergarten. 4K is not a mandatory program by the state of Wisconsin. However, it’s greatly encouraged for your child’s development and a great experience to meet school expectations. If your child has a summer birthday (June 15 or later), there are options in regard to delaying entrance into 4K programming. We do not encourage repeating our 4K program or completing any programming twice. As parents, you know your child the best, and we will work as a team to help your child learn and grow throughout the school year!
Enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year opens on February 2, 2026. Please complete “New Student Enrollment” under the Registration Tab on our website. Our enrollment process asks to verify proof of residency (a utility bill, property tax bill, rental agreement) and your child’s birth certificate. It’s required by the state of Wisconsin that the school verifies your child’s date of birth. We are not allowed to copy birth certificates, so please stop by our district office (1903 Bartlett Ave. Altoona) between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m after you enroll online.
Once you have completed online enrollment, your child's birth certificate is verified, and you present proof of address, your child’s enrollment will be complete, and your child will be added to a class list.
Open enrollment applications go to our school board for approval. You will receive a letter in the mail with your approval/denial by the end of May. You must state whether your child will or will not be attending the Altoona School District 4K program, and mail the letter back.
Information regarding your child’s class placement and Welcome Day information will be mailed out over the summer. Our 4K program runs Monday–Thursday, with no student instruction on Friday. We have an AM session from 7:25-10:45 and a PM session from 11:15-2:35.

“My family and children love the Altoona 4K Program! We love the teachers, small class sizes, and the opportunity to learn to ride the bus with an aide, seat belts, and being picked up at our door. It’s a great step in the big transition and preparation for Kindergarten.”
